Basics about Abs and Ab Workouts

On the whole, people workout in order to increase muscle mass as well as increase the metabolism. And among those large muscles that are most often of focus are the front and back thigh muscles, the buttocks muscles, the chest, back, biceps, triceps, hips, calves, shoulders and forearms muscles - and last but not least, the abdominal muscles AKA the abs.

Here are the basic muscle groups for your workout focal points below. And you'll see where your abs fit into the picture a little more clearly.

Upper Areas:

Your upper areas include your rhomboids and trapezius. Rhomboids are the smaller muscles in your mid-back. They assist in movement with shoulder blades for posture. And your triangular-shaped trapezius muscle works from the mid-back on up over your shoulders to your neck for moving your head.

Shoulder Muscle Areas:

Your shoulder muscles include your rotators and deltoids. Rotators are your rotator cuffs, muscles under your shoulders, moving your arms. Deltoids cover your shoulder joints and are made up of the front or anterior, side or lateral, and rear or posterior areas for motion range.

Lower Areas:

Your lower areas reach from the back pelvic region, two rounded areas on your rear (AKA torso) that are in back of your hip area. They are formed with your gluteal muscles plus other support organs, structures and tissues. Your calve, thigh and hip muscles are a part of this group, too.

Middle Areas:

Your middle areas include four muscles that actually are what are known as your abdominals. These are your rectus abdominis (the six-pack zone where many have that weak spots that become the "battle of the buldge"), your external and internal obliques, and your transverse abdominis side areas (underneath your obliques).

Chest Muscle Group

Your chest area includes your pectorals AKA pecs. These are four flat muscles. Two are located on each side of your body.

Arm Muscles

Your arm muscles include your triceps, biceps and forearm muscles.

Also look online with keywords like, "ab workouts + your location" for hundreds of listing possibilities that turn up in Google's search engine alone.

Of course, make sure you seek approval of your healthcare provider before enrolling in any new fitness program. And then have the trainer make sure to customize your own personal training so you get a good fit.
